Hospice services do not replace the care given by family members or others, but rather gives support and instruction to the daily caregivers. Our agency does not require a patient with no caregiver to sign an agreement for a future plan upon admission, but will encourage the patient overtime to develop such a plan. The goals of hospice care are comfort and symptom management. The care is provided in a patient?s place of residence by a team of staff members and volunteers through scheduled visits.  Because most hospice patients wish to remain at home, we advise that you call our office for a consultation before going to a hospital or dialing 911. Our staff is available around the clock, seven days a week. Hospice services are comprehensive and include nursing, social work, hospice aides, spiritual care, volunteers, all disease related medications, medical equipment, and supplies.  These services are provided at four levels of care; routine home care, respite care, continuous care, and general inpatient care. Bereavement services are available to family members. Any hospitalization that might be required for pain control or symptom management must be coordinated with the hospice team. Since hospice care seeks neither to hasten death nor prolong life artificially, some medical services ? such as intravenous therapy and blood transfusions ? are provided only when they will enhance the comfort of the patient. The patient?s care may be directed by any willing physician, in consultation with the Hospice staff that the patient chooses.
